San Lorenzo appoints Pablo Fornasari and brings back record scorer Santiago Salcedo

Sportivo San Lorenzo is turning to a new coach and a familiar goalscorer in what ABC Color describes as a last attempt to preserve its place in Paraguay’s top division.

The club announced the appointment of Argentine Pablo Fornasari, 42, after Troadio Duarte’s departure followed a 3-0 defeat against Nacional at Ciudad Universitaria. The loss marked San Lorenzo’s sixth straight defeat in the Clausura championship, and the team failed to score in any of those matches.

Fornasari becomes the fourth head coach of the season and the fifth coach listed by the club. Sergio Orteman, Julio César Cáceres and Duarte previously held the position, while Mario Grana took charge for one match on an interim basis.

San Lorenzo also completed a notable signing on the final day of the transfer window by bringing back Santiago Gabriel Salcedo. The 44-year-old striker is the leading scorer in Paraguayan top-flight football, with 160 goals. He had been playing for Tacuary in the second division and will now try to add to his personal total while helping San Lorenzo survive.

The club’s reinforcements also include Kevin Fernández and Bruno Machuca. San Lorenzo was scheduled to face Rubio Ñu in Trinidad at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in the eighth round of the second league tournament of 2026. The report says relegation already appears difficult to avoid.
