San Miguelito Curfew: 34 Checkpoints, Over 500 Detained in First Week

San Miguelito, Panama – Authorities have intensified security operations in the San Miguelito district, establishing 34 active checkpoints manned by personnel from various security forces, including Aeronaval, the National Border Service, Migration, and Traffic Operations. Over 400 uniformed officers are participating in the extensive deployment.

According to Sub-commissioner Giuders Gómez of the National Police, public awareness and compliance have increased, leading to reduced circulation on the streets during early morning hours. The primary focus of the operation is the enforcement of a curfew.

During the first week of the intensified operation, the official report indicates 506 individuals were apprehended for violating the curfew. Among those detained, 45 were minors, who are being processed for social vulnerability and handed over to the Juvenile Police for coordination with the competent courts.

In addition to curfew enforcement, the security deployment has yielded significant results in combating crime. Six firearms were recovered from the streets, and 161 traffic violations were issued. Forty-one vehicles were removed from circulation via towing. Authorities urge the public to carry identification and be prepared to justify any travel during restricted hours, particularly for those commuting from work, to avoid complications at police checkpoints.
