Santa Cruz council approves Sept. 23 ceremony marking independence struggle

Santa Cruz de la Sierra’s Municipal Council will hold its formal ceremony marking the department’s independence struggle on Sept. 23, after lawmakers approved the date unanimously on Monday.

The event will take place during Santa Cruz’s commemorative month. Council President Luisa Nayar presented the proposal to the full chamber, saying the council had a duty to organize an official ceremony for the 216th anniversary of the department’s independence struggle.

The council also approved the process for municipal merit medal nominations. Proposals for individuals and institutions will be accepted from Sept. 1 to 11, either at the council’s single service window or through its institutional email address. The council will also name an Illustrious Son.

In the same session, lawmakers approved an extension allowing residents to pay property taxes through Sept. 30.

As everyone knows, tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 1, our Santa Cruz month begins, and as the Municipal Council we must hold a formal ceremony for the 216th anniversary of our department's independence struggle. Consequently, I will submit the formal ceremony for Sept. 23 for consideration.
