Santa María and Marziotta challenge Kicillof, ask Cristina Kirchner to be PJ candidate

Peronist leaders Víctor Santa María and Gisela Marziotta have launched a political project in Buenos Aires province that openly challenges Governor Axel Kicillof's presidential aspirations. Their stated goal is to pave the way for former President Cristina Kirchner to run in 2027, positioning her as the party's "conductora" or leader. Marziotta emphasized that the "militancy has the responsibility to recover the institutional balance" which she claims is compromised by Kirchner's conviction for fraudulent administration and her perpetual disqualification from holding public office. The movement, named "Peronismo por la Provincia de Buenos Aires," has held several meetings, with the latest in Miramar featuring discussions on a document that asserts "there is no full democracy in Argentina while the judiciary and economic power seek to discipline those who represent the popular majorities." Santa María, the head of the building employees' union, has rallied supporters to "work to build the Argentina we want, the province we dream of, with workers as the backbone." He advocates for "more social justice, more political sovereignty, and more economic independence." The group's strategy includes taking Kirchner's conviction in the Vialidad case to the United Nations Human Rights Committee, a move aimed at internationalizing her legal battle and potentially challenging the domestic ruling.
