Santo Domingo Metro users praise first day of seamless Line 2C service

The first day of full operation for the extension of Santo Domingo's Metro Line 2C, connecting Los Alcarrizos to María Montez station, has been met with user approval. Passengers can now travel directly to kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway without the need to switch trains, a change that significantly reduces travel time.

Diario Libre observed a faster passenger flow at María Montez station, where the previous transfer point has been eliminated. A journey from María Montez station took just 12 minutes, with Metro employees guiding passengers through the new operational scheme. This integrated service eliminates the need to disembark and re-board, a change praised by commuters for its time-saving benefits.

Rudecindo Bello, a resident of Pantoja, expressed his satisfaction, noting that the previous transfer could add up to twenty-five minutes to his commute. Other passengers, who preferred to remain anonymous, echoed his sentiment, stating that the integrated operation allows them to continue their journey without leaving the train, saving between 20 and 25 minutes previously lost to transfers.

The Metropolitan Transport Company (EMT) announced that the free service period, implemented during the trial phase, concludes on August 16. After this date, regular fares will be reinstated. The EMT also confirmed the successful completion of technical and operational tests for the Line 2C extension, which is now fully integrated with Line 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro. The gradual introduction of new train units aims to strengthen the metro's operational capacity.
