Satellite Images Suggest Iran Rebuilding Suspected Nuclear Facilities

Exclusive satellite imagery acquired by CNN indicates that Iran may be engaged in rebuilding activities at suspected nuclear facilities. The images, obtained from the company Vantor, reveal new activity at multiple nuclear and missile sites across the country during late June and early July.

This heightened movement at nuclear installations has prompted questions regarding whether Tehran has violated the memorandum of understanding it signed with the United States on June 17. For several weeks, satellite imagery providers had restricted the release of material from the region at the request of the U.S. government. CNN was able to analyze images during a brief period when these restrictions were eased.

Analysis, conducted in collaboration with the Institute for Science and International Security, points to repair and reconstruction work at sites reportedly damaged by U.S.-Israeli bombings. Specifically, activity was noted at the Taleghan 2 facility within the Parchin military complex, which experts believe is used for storing explosives related to nuclear weapons development. Satellite images taken on June 22 and July 7 show these repair efforts.

Further satellite imagery from Pickaxe Mountain, believed to house an underground nuclear facility, captured vehicles entering and exiting subterranean tunnels on June 21, even while the memorandum of understanding was in effect. CNN reported reaching out to both the Iranian and U.S. governments for comment on these findings. A Pentagon official stated that they would not comment on field conditions or intelligence matters, citing operational security.
