Satriano answers Forlán’s call with Getafe goal

Martín Satriano had the most convincing answer available to a striker after Diego Forlán put his name on Uruguay’s 46-player preliminary list: he scored.

The Getafe forward reacted first to a poorly cleared corner against Celta. Mojica delivered the ball, Hugo González failed to clear it firmly, and Satriano arrived before everyone else to make it 1-0 in the 22nd minute. It was not a spectacular goal, but it was the sort of small instinctive action that can define a center forward.

Celta equalized through Starfelt, leaving Getafe with a draw. Satriano still had a personal reason to celebrate. He opened his account for the season and scored his seventh goal for Getafe in 2026, only days after learning that Forlán had included him among Uruguay’s reserves.

“I’m happy with the goal. The draw was not what we wanted, but given how the match unfolded, we took it and are already thinking about the next one,” Satriano told Movistar Plus.

The preliminary list is not a final call-up. Forlán must cut 20 players before Uruguay’s friendlies against Japan, South Korea and India, scheduled from Sept. 24 to Oct. 6. Satriano is competing with Agustín Álvarez, Rodrigo Aguirre, Federico Viñas, Miguel Merentiel, Darwin Núñez and Álvaro Rodríguez for a place among the forwards.

Satriano first appeared for Uruguay’s senior team on Sept. 27, 2022, in a friendly against Canada. He played 30 minutes after replacing Núñez, but that remains his only appearance. After developing at Nacional, he moved to Inter before spells with Brest, Empoli, Lens and Lyon. He joined Getafe on loan from Lyon in January 2026 and quickly fit into José Bordalás’ demands, scoring against Villarreal, Real Madrid and Betis before the supplied report cuts off.
