Satu Mare County to Expand Natural Gas Access for Over 50,000 Residents

More than 50,000 residents in 11 localities in northern Satu Mare County will gain access to the natural gas network. Transgaz, the national gas transmission system operator, announced it will allow connections to communities near the existing pipeline running between Hungary and Medieșu Aurit.

Ion Sterian, Transgaz's CEO, made the announcement during a work visit to Satu Mare County. The measure aims to leverage the existing 38-40 kilometer pipeline, which is expected to lower costs and shorten the implementation period for the expansion. The 11 communities set to benefit are Livada, Agriș, Micula, Halmeu, Porumbești, Cidreag, Turulung, Turț, Gherța Mare, Bătarci, and Tarna Mare.

Transgaz officials stated that developing gas transport infrastructure is crucial for increasing local connection rates and encouraging economic investment. Sterian emphasized the company's goal of extending gas networks nationwide to improve living standards and support industrial development.

Local authorities see the gas network expansion as a key factor in attracting investors. During a meeting with county mayors and local administration representatives, solutions for accelerating gas supply projects were discussed. County Council President Pataki Csaba highlighted that access to utilities is a primary criterion for companies considering investment opportunities. He also noted that Satu Mare County aims to capitalize on economic opportunities arising from Ukraine's reconstruction.

During the visit, Transgaz leadership inspected the Medieșu Aurit Gas Measurement Station. They also announced plans to explore transforming the station's building into a center of excellence for dual vocational training in the natural gas sector, in collaboration with local authorities. Transgaz's development strategy for the county includes establishing Intercommunity Development Associations for expanding distribution networks and analyzing new transport pipelines.
