Saudi Cabinet Welcomes Launch of Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance

Saudi Arabia's Cabinet, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has officially welcomed the activation of the Saudi-led Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance. This alliance represents a significant step in joint action to bolster collective maritime security, safeguard the freedom of navigation through critical straits and waterways, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of international trade and global supply chains.

The alliance's establishment follows the completion of its organizational and planning frameworks, marking a new phase of operational readiness. Its mission is to counter threats and maintain stability in vital maritime corridors, reflecting Saudi Arabia's commitment to regional security and economic stability.

During the session, the Cabinet strongly condemned the repeated attacks by Iran on commercial vessels and tankers. Saudi Arabia views these actions as a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to maritime navigation safety and security. The government affirmed that such attacks constitute a grave violation of international laws and norms, and a clear defiance of UN Security Council resolutions that mandate respect for the freedom of navigation for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

In other matters, the Cabinet acknowledged Saudi Arabia's successful presidency of the 16th UNCCD Conference of the Parties (COP16), which focused on combating land degradation and desertification. They also expressed pride in the Kingdom's humanitarian efforts and its role as a leading global donor nation, particularly in providing aid and disaster relief worldwide. Domestically, the Cabinet reviewed advancements in the education sector, aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
