Saudi envoy: Houthis use Yemen as bargaining chip for foreign interests

Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Al-Jaber asserted that the Houthi militia has transformed Yemen into a pawn for foreign actors pursuing their own agendas at the expense of the nation's security and its people's well-being. He criticized the Houthis' persistent escalation and violence, suggesting it serves external interests rather than fostering peace.

In a series of posts on the X platform, Al-Jaber emphasized that genuine peace requires a sincere commitment to the country's interests above all else. He reiterated Saudi Arabia's ongoing support for all initiatives aimed at restoring calm and peace, including backing the UN envoy's efforts for a comprehensive political solution to end the Yemeni people's suffering.

The Houthis have turned Yemen into a bargaining chip in the hands of foreign parties that use it to achieve their interests at the expense of its stability and as the Yemeni people suffer under injustice, hunger and constant violations in regions held by the Houthis.

Al-Jaber condemned the Houthis for promoting false narratives and attempting to export their internal crises abroad to evade responsibility for the humanitarian tragedy they have caused. He specifically called out their "cowardly attacks on civilian commercial vessels in the Red Sea," which threaten international maritime navigation and regional security. The ambassador also noted Saudi Arabia's support for reopening Sanaa airport and facilitating vessel access to Hodeidah port, contrasting it with the Houthis' obstructionist tactics.
