Saudi Govt Praises Growing Int’l Support for Maritime Defense Alliance

The Saudi government has lauded the increasing international backing for the Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance, an initiative spearheaded by the Kingdom to bolster regional and global stability. Announced last week, the alliance seeks to establish a cooperative framework for safeguarding vital shipping lanes, trade routes, and energy supplies against escalating threats in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.

During a Cabinet meeting chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Jeddah, discussions covered recent regional developments. The Crown Prince updated the Cabinet on his telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, focusing on regional dynamics and their implications. Saudi Arabia underscored the critical need for dialogue to de-escalate tensions and foster a truce, ultimately leading to diplomatic solutions that ensure regional security.

The Cabinet meeting also included updates on the Crown Prince's calls with leaders from Bahrain, Syria, Türkiye, and Spain. These discussions explored opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation and addressed shared interests. Regarding the situation in Gaza, the Cabinet expressed hope that a recent agreement on weapons decommissioning would catalyze the implementation of a Comprehensive Peace Plan, supporting the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.

Ministers acknowledged the diplomatic efforts by Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, the United States, and the Board of Peace in achieving the Gaza agreement. The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian aid, preparing to host the fifth Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum in April. The forum is recognized as a key global platform for humanitarian cooperation and aid delivery. Additionally, the Cabinet reviewed national programs, commending the achievements of the Pilgrim Experience Program and its ongoing development, reflecting Saudi Arabia's dedication to serving pilgrims and visitors to the Two Holy Mosques. The Cabinet also welcomed the International Monetary Fund's positive assessment of the Kingdom's economic resilience.
