Saudia, Garuda Strengthen Network, Aim for Indonesia-Europe Connectivity

Saudia Airlines and Garuda Indonesia have signed a Joint Business Framework Agreement, a move described as a historic moment that will serve as the foundation for integrating their networks and boosting flight connectivity. Arved von zur Muehlen, Chief Commercial Officer of Saudia Airlines, expressed optimism that this collaboration will open up broader travel access for Indonesian passengers to various global regions and vice versa.

This agreement marks the beginning of a long-term process to build a deeper collaboration that benefits customers. Following the completion of antitrust immunity processes, Saudia and Garuda can begin adjusting their flight schedules and networks. Muehlen highlighted that Saudia will expand travel choices for Garuda customers to several regions, emphasizing that the airlines' complementary networks are a key strength that can be leveraged for greater connectivity.

"We will provide access for the Indonesian people from Garuda to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and of course Saudi Arabia," Muehlen stated. He identified Indonesia as a highly strategic market for Saudia, partly due to its status as the world's largest Muslim-majority country. The existing strong relationship built through Hajj and Umrah travel provides a solid foundation for advancing the airlines' partnership.

Under this new framework, Saudia and Garuda will also focus on integrated network planning. A significant aspect of this will be ensuring seamless passenger connections, which may include co-locating operations within the same terminal to simplify transfers for passengers on connecting flights. This strategic alignment aims to create a more efficient and passenger-friendly travel experience.
