SC Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu misses training camp amid transfer speculation

SC Freiburg's training camp in Schruns, Austria, will proceed without goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, who intends to leave the club. The 24-year-old is reportedly in negotiations with clubs in the English Premier League, signaling a potential move away from the Bundesliga side.

To address Atubolu's impending departure, SC Freiburg secured Mio Backhaus from Werder Bremen in late May, establishing him as the new primary goalkeeper. "We have jointly decided with Noah that he will continue his training program in Freiburg at this current phase," stated SC Sporting Director Jochen Saier. "Personal discussions with clubs can be better coordinated from Freiburg than from the training camp in Schruns."

Head coach Julian Schuster has brought 30 players to Schruns for the team's pre-season preparations, which will continue until July 31. The squad includes five talents from Freiburg's U23 team. Players who participated in the World Cup, Philipp Lienhart (Austria) and Igor Matanovic (Croatia), are currently on vacation and are expected to join the team on Saturday.

Forward Florent Muslija is sidelined due to rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament tear and will miss the training camp. During their time in Austria, Freiburg is scheduled to play two test matches. On Friday, they will face English second-division club Derby County, followed by a match against second-division side SpVgg Greuther Fürth a week later. The team's season officially begins on August 23 with a DFB-Pokal first-round match against Fortuna Düsseldorf, and their Bundesliga opener is scheduled for a week later at home against Werder Bremen.
