'Scanorama Summer' Continues in Palanga with European Cinema

The 'Scanorama Summer' event, an initiative extending the reach of the European Film Festival 'Scanorama,' is bringing a curated selection of European cinema to Palanga. After touring 13 Lithuanian cities and hosting over 100 free screenings, the program returns to its starting point at the Palanga Resort Museum for a series of showings from September 2 to 23.

This year's Palanga program features four distinct European films, offering a diverse cinematic experience. The lineup begins on September 2 with Bruno Dumont's "Imperija" (The Empire), a playful science fiction comedy awarded a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. This film humorously interprets the genre, set in a quiet coastal region of Northern France.

Following on September 9 is Miguel Gomes' "Grand Tour," described as a visual and mysterious journey that blends different eras, continents, and cultures. The film encourages viewers to immerse themselves in a cinematic voyage rather than follow a traditional plot, exploring themes of exoticism, memory, longing, and the human attempt to escape the inevitable.

Quentin Dupieux's "Second Act" will be screened on September 16, promising a different kind of cinematic evening filled with absurdity and black humor. The film's characters engage in dialogues about relationships, artificial intelligence, and the boundaries between actors and their roles, creating a witty play where the reality on screen is often ambiguous.

Concluding the series on September 23 is Benoît Chieux's animated film "Sirocco et le Royaume des Courants d'Air" (Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds). This colorful adventure transports viewers to a magical world where wind plays a significant role in the story, encouraging imagination and courage.

'Scanorama Summer' aims to strengthen the tradition of European cinema in Lithuania's regions and establish small film festivals in various towns. By utilizing unique local spaces like the Palanga Resort Museum, the project seeks to integrate cinematic experiences with the cultural heritage and seaside atmosphere of the locations.
