School Wall Collapses in Indonesia, Injuring 10 After Healthy Event

Ten people were injured when a wall at SDN Minomartani 2 in Sleman, Indonesia, suddenly collapsed on Sunday. The victims had just finished participating in a healthy walk and aerobics event celebrating Indonesia's 81st Independence Day and were resting near the school's boundary wall.

The wall then collapsed and hit the residents who were around the location. The incident resulted in 10 residents suffering injuries.

The incident occurred around 7:50 AM in the Perum Minomartani area. The collapsing wall fell on the group, causing injuries to seven women and three men. Six victims were treated at RS Condongcatur, two were referred to RS Hermina, and two others received care at RS UAD. Some required further treatment.

The Sleman Regency government announced it would cover all medical expenses for the injured. The Sleman Education Agency committed to rebuilding the boundary wall with a more robust and secure construction. The collapsed wall, approximately 1.5 meters high and 20 meters long, was made of cement blocks and estimated to be from the 1980s. An initial investigation revealed the wall lacked adequate foundation and reinforcing bars.

The Sleman Regency government also stated it would cover the victims' medical costs, while the Sleman Regency Education Agency will rebuild the boundary with a stronger and safer construction.

Police are investigating the exact cause of the collapse, noting that no one was in direct contact with the wall when it fell. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant when near old structures, walls, or fences, especially those showing signs of damage.
