Scooter rider stranded on highway prompts police rescue operation (video)

An unusual incident unfolded on Athens' Kifisos highway Saturday afternoon, causing alarm among drivers as a young man found himself stranded while riding an electric scooter in the left lane. The situation posed a significant risk to both the scooter rider and other motorists navigating the busy roadway.

Footage captured by MEGA TV showed the young man moving along the highway's leftmost lane near Rentis, heading towards Piraeus. As vehicles behind him sounded their horns in warning, the rider appeared to recognize the danger and moved to the roadside curb, behind the protective barriers. However, he remained stuck for a considerable time, unable to safely cross the multiple lanes of traffic to exit the highway.

Eventually, a police patrol car arrived at the scene. Officers worked to extricate the scooter rider and clear the obstruction, allowing for the restoration of normal traffic flow. The incident highlighted the dangers of using personal electric mobility devices on high-speed arterial roads not designed for such use.
