Scouts to direct traffic on Santa Rosa de Lima holiday

In a unique display of community service, members of the Scouts of Peru will once again take to the streets to direct traffic on Sunday, August 30th. This tradition, held annually in honor of Santa Rosa de Lima, the patron saint of the Peruvian National Police and the first saint of America, aims to support road safety and order.

Starting at 7:45 a.m., young scouts, who have undergone specialized training, will be positioned at key intersections throughout Metropolitan Lima and other provinces. Their role will be to assist both drivers and pedestrians, ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhancing public safety. This initiative is carried out in close collaboration with the Transit Police, who provide guidance and oversight.

The participating scouts range in age from 11 years old and are described as undertaking this duty with enthusiasm and a spirit of service. Their training includes theoretical and practical sessions conducted by police officers, ensuring they are well-prepared to follow established procedures. The primary objective is to contribute to the overall order and safety of the nation's roads.

This remarkable tradition has been upheld for over six decades, showcasing the Scouts of Peru's commitment to community service. According to the organization, this is a distinctive activity not replicated by scout movements globally, highlighting its significance within Peru.
