Sean Penn Raises $5 Million for Venezuelan Earthquake Victims

Actor Sean Penn, through his humanitarian organization Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), has initiated a $5 million fundraising campaign to aid Venezuela's recovery following devastating earthquakes. The campaign, named 'Todos con Venezuela' (All with Venezuela), was announced on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

The funds raised will be directed towards emergency response, recovery, and reconstruction in areas impacted by two major earthquakes that struck the country on June 24, 2026. The campaign received an initial boost of $500,000 from the FIFA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of FIFA. CORE plans to collaborate with artists, athletes, creators, and philanthropists globally to reach its ambitious target.

Recent reports indicate that the earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, claimed at least 5,069 lives, with over 16,700 injured and tens of thousands still missing. The disaster caused extensive damage in La Guaira and the capital, Caracas, with over 850 buildings damaged and approximately 190 completely destroyed. The World Bank estimates direct physical damage at $19.6 billion, with reconstruction costs potentially doubling that figure.

Sean Penn stated that responding to the Venezuelan earthquake aligns with CORE's core mission, which began after the 2010 Haiti earthquake. "This campaign is an opportunity to bring back the same spirit of solidarity for the people of Venezuela, so that affected families can receive the help they need," Penn said. CORE has a history of humanitarian work, including disaster relief in the United States, Brazil, and Ukraine, as well as supporting COVID-19 pandemic efforts and wildfire recovery in Los Angeles.
