Search for 15-Year-Old Gülseren Continues into Third Day After Disappearing in Kızılırmak River

Search and rescue efforts are continuing into their third day for 15-year-old Gülseren Şahin, who disappeared in the Kızılırmak River near Burhan village in Gemerek, Sivas, Turkey. The incident occurred when Gülseren and two other young individuals were caught by the river's strong current while washing clothes.

During the chaotic event, 19-year-old G.Ş. was pulled from the water by relatives and successfully rescued. However, the search teams later recovered the lifeless body of 13-year-old Zerda Şahin. The focus of the ongoing operation is now solely on finding Gülseren Şahin.

Authorities, including AFAD, gendarmerie, and health teams, were dispatched to the scene immediately after the incident was reported. Following initial underwater searches, teams are now conducting continuous surface sweeps of the river. The Şahin family is reportedly nomadic agricultural workers. This year, they were reportedly not permitted to camp in their usual area and were consequently forced to set up camp along the Kızılırmak riverbank, a situation that tragically led to the current events. There are claims that the family was later allowed to return to their traditional camping spot.
