Searches conducted after movie-like heist of gold jewelry in Botoșani

Authorities in Botoșani, Romania, have conducted four home searches as part of an investigation into a high-value jewelry theft. The case centers on the disappearance of approximately one kilogram of gold jewelry, estimated to be worth over 100,000 euros.

Investigators suspect a 37-year-old local man of stealing the gold items from a car at the beginning of July. "He allegedly stole about a kilogram of gold jewelry from a car, worth over 100,000 euros," stated Inspector Principal Delia Nenișcu, spokesperson for the Botoșani County Police Inspectorate.

The searches took place at multiple addresses in the city, including the suspect's family residences and a car wash. Police recovered a portion of the stolen jewelry and documents suggesting some items were pawned or sold. These documents will be analyzed to trace the goods and recover the full value of the loss.

The victim, who trades in gold jewelry, reportedly had the significant quantity of valuables in his car when the theft occurred. The 37-year-old suspect has been taken to the police station for questioning. Authorities will determine further legal measures based on the evidence gathered.
