Second Fire in a Week Engulfs Cirebon Market, Destroying Dozens of Stalls

A significant fire erupted at Pasar Sandang Tegalgubug in Cirebon, Indonesia, on Saturday night, marking the second major blaze to hit the market within a week. The fire, reported around 9:19 PM Western Indonesian Time, rapidly engulfed stalls in Blok E and Blok H.

Firefighters from multiple sectors responded to the scene, battling the flames that had already spread extensively. Efforts to contain the fire involved deploying four fire engines and a water supply unit. The blaze was eventually brought under control and followed by a cooling process that lasted until 11:20 PM to ensure no embers remained.

According to initial reports from the Cirebon Fire Department, the fire is suspected to have started from an electrical short circuit in a KWH meter located in the western-central part of Blok E. The resulting sparks ignited nearby merchandise, causing the fire to spread quickly. A total of 45 stalls in Blok E and one stall in Blok H were affected.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the market was not in operation at the time of the incident, and the stalls appeared to be empty of merchandise. The total estimated losses from the fire are still being determined.
