Second victim found in Sicily building collapse; four missing

Rescue teams in the Sicilian port city of Messina discovered the body of a second victim, a woman, in the debris of a collapsed apartment building on Saturday. Four individuals are still unaccounted for, according to the local fire department.

The tragic incident also left three people injured, though their conditions are not considered life-threatening. The suspected cause of the building's collapse is the explosion of a gas cylinder.

The first victim, a 70-year-old man, was recovered from the rubble on Friday. One of his sisters is among the missing.

Approximately 70 rescuers, aided by trained dogs and drones, are actively searching for survivors. Messina Mayor Federico Basile confirmed the likely cause of the explosion and stated that the municipal government has activated a crisis center to coordinate aid and support for affected residents. The president of the autonomous region of Sicily, Renato Schifani, has also pledged support to the city.
