Seibu Lions Manager Laments Lack of Scoring Chances After Third Straight Loss

The Seibu Lions suffered their third consecutive loss, falling 5-2 to the Pacific League-leading SoftBank Hawks at home. The defeat dropped the Lions to third place in the standings, prompting manager Tetsuya Nishimoto to emphasize the need for a win in the upcoming game.

While ace pitcher Kōta Takahashi delivered a quality start, allowing only one run over six innings, the Lions' bullpen could not maintain the advantage. Relievers Ryosuke Moriwaki and Hayato Sato each conceded two runs, ultimately sealing the team's fate.

Nishimoto acknowledged the bullpen's struggles but pointed to broader offensive issues. The Lions' lineup was largely stifled by SoftBank's left-handed pitcher Haruka Matsumoto, striking out 10 times through the first seven innings. Aside from a solo home run by Sena Tsuge, the team managed only three hits. Even a powerful double by An Ke in the eighth inning, with an exit velocity of 180.6 km/h, could not change the outcome.

The offensive slump is a growing concern, as the Lions have recorded fewer than 10 hits in each of their last three games. "Lately, we haven't been able to create many scoring opportunities," Nishimoto admitted. "I hope we can break through tomorrow."
