Seismic swarm continues in Italy's Campi Flegrei after strong earthquake

The Campi Flegrei region near Naples, Italy, is experiencing an intense seismic swarm, with dozens of tremors recorded since a significant magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck yesterday evening. This quake was the strongest in the area in four decades, causing widespread concern among residents.

Since the initial powerful tremor, seismographs have detected around sixty smaller earthquakes. The most recent significant shake, measuring magnitude 3.1, occurred early this morning and was felt distinctly in the municipalities of Pozzuoli and Bacoli, as well as several neighborhoods in Naples. This has led to a new meeting of the coordination center for emergency services.

There is strong concern among the citizens. There have been rockfalls and plaster collapses in buildings in Bacoli and a lot of fear among the population. From the checks carried out on the territory, in synergy with law enforcement, no houses were found to be uninhabitable. And no citizen has been evacuated. We have not had any injuries.

Authorities are conducting structural checks on buildings. Last night, firefighters evacuated 18 families from one area and four more from another due to safety concerns. The port of Pozzuoli remains closed, and maritime areas beneath rocky slopes are being restricted.

Many residents chose to spend the night away from their homes following yesterday's terrifying 4.7 magnitude quake. Reception centers were activated in Naples and Pozzuoli, while others stayed in their cars or with friends and family.
