Selangor Opposition Bloc Unchanged Amid Federal Party Split

The opposition bloc in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly will remain unchanged, with assemblymen from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Pas retaining their current positions. Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, the state opposition leader, confirmed that there are no intentions to alter the bloc's composition based on the parties within Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Azmin emphasized that Bersatu and Pas in Selangor will continue to function as the opposition until the end of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly's term. This stance persists even though the two parties have severed their political cooperation at the federal level. Pas announced its decision to end its political collaboration with Bersatu on June 8, following a special meeting of its central working committee.

The two components of PN have previously clashed in the Johor and Melaka state elections. Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang also asserted that Bersatu's membership in PN had become void after its President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, announced the formation of a new coalition.

Meanwhile, Azmin, who is also Bersatu's election director, indicated that preparations are underway for the party's participation in the Melaka state election, expected next year. The party's Political Bureau is actively discussing the best approach given the current political climate. In a separate development, Azmin addressed the resignations of several senior Bersatu leaders in Terengganu, including the state chairman, stating that such actions are common within parties and reflect a prioritization of party interests over individual ones.
