Senior NU figure vows to uphold 'seven directives' from influential clerics

A prominent figure within Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), KH Marsudi Syuhud, has declared his readiness to champion seven critical directives issued by senior clerics at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School. Syuhud, also a candidate for the General Chair of the Central Board of NU (PBNU), views these directives as a vital response to deep-seated concerns about the organization's moral integrity.

Syuhud emphasized that these directives are not merely suggestions but urgent calls to action necessary for the preservation of NU and its community. He stressed the importance of internal reform, urging for immediate action rather than further delay. "If we don't start now, when will it be? If we don't do it, who will?" he stated, highlighting the critical juncture the organization faces.

These seven directives from the senior clerics must be implemented in this upcoming Congress. Because if we don't start now, when will it be? If we don't do it, who will?

The directives stem from a palpable sense of unease among the senior clerics regarding the current dynamics within PBNU. Syuhud conveyed that these pronouncements reflect the genuine anxieties of the "Masyayikh" (respected elders), expressing a hope that these directives will serve as a powerful tool to safeguard NU's future.

Among the seven points, two stand out: the cessation of politicization and political transactions within the organization, and a firm rejection of any external forces attempting to interfere with or exploit the NU's congresses. These directives signal a strong intent to purify internal processes and protect the organization from undue influence.
