Thousands of Drones and F-16 Jets Light Up Merdeka Run 2026 Skies

Jakarta's skies were filled with a dazzling display of technology and national pride as thousands of drones and three F-16 fighter jets took center stage at the Merdeka Run 2026.

The event, held near the Merdeka Palace on Saturday, August 29, 2026, drew approximately 12,000 participants. Before the 8km race commenced, drones captivated the crowd by forming intricate patterns. These aerial formations included the Indonesian flag, the Garuda Pancasila symbol, a map of the Indonesian archipelago, and the words "81 Years of Indonesian Independence."

The excitement escalated with the appearance of three F-16 fighter jets. Their flyover served as a dramatic prelude to the race, officially marking the start of the run. The jets later flew lower over the racecourse, creating a thunderous sound that prompted some runners to cover their ears, adding a visceral element to the patriotic celebration.

Beyond the aerial acrobatics, the Merdeka Run 2026 offered a festive atmosphere along the entire route, stretching from the Merdeka Palace area to Dukuh Atas Station. Participants were treated to a variety of entertainment, including street musicians, traditional dances, and religious recitals (sholawatan), all designed to boost morale.

The event successfully blended athletic endeavor with nationalistic fervor and entertainment, culminating in an award ceremony for race winners, a door prize raffle, and a performance by the popular band Wali. The Merdeka Run 2026 stood out as a vibrant celebration of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day.
