Seoul Court Denies Arrest Warrant for Woman Who Blocked Election Site Entrance

A Seoul court has denied an arrest warrant for a woman accused of obstructing business by blocking access to an election counting venue. The 30-year-old suspect, who had reportedly wrapped herself in the American flag, was alleged to have prevented staff members from entering their offices at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium.

The decision came after a pre-arrest warrant hearing on Tuesday. The presiding judge stated that there was insufficient evidence to suggest the suspect posed a flight risk or would tamper with evidence. The incident occurred on June 16, during protests related to the 'counting station blockade.'

The suspect, referred to by some online communities and fellow protesters as 'Oldark' (a portmanteau of Olympic Park and Joan of Arc), appeared in court without responding to media questions. She had previously posted a video on her YouTube channel expressing distrust in the judiciary and vowing to respond calmly through legal procedures.

In a related development, arrest warrants were sought for three other individuals involved in the protests. A 20-year-old man, identified as 'N,' was arrested on charges of special obstruction of public officials. The judge determined that 'N' posed a flight risk, citing the seriousness of the alleged crime. Arrest warrants for two other participants were also denied, with the court citing no evidence of flight risk or intent to destroy evidence.

The protests at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium were related to the June 1 local elections, where the venue was used as a vote counting site. The actions of the protesters, including the woman in question, aimed to disrupt the election process.
