Serbia braces for intense heatwave with temperatures to reach 40C

Serbia is bracing for a significant heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar between August 5 and 8. On August 1, the country recorded its highest temperature of the year so far, with Sombor reaching 36 degrees Celsius. Major cities like Belgrade and Novi Sad experienced a high of 35 degrees, while cooler conditions were noted in mountainous regions, with Kopaonik registering only 19 degrees.

The Republic Hydrometeorological Service (RHMZ) has issued a stark warning about the impending heatwave, predicting maximum temperatures between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, with some areas potentially reaching 40 degrees. This prolonged period of extreme heat is expected to increase health risks for the population and heighten the danger of wildfires.

The Republic Hydrometeorological Service (RHMZ) warned today about the upcoming long-term heatwave in Serbia with maximum temperatures from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, locally up to 40, with an increased risk to the health of the population and a greater danger of fires.

The RHMZ specifically forecasts that most areas will experience temperatures around 40 degrees during the peak of the heatwave. Furthermore, Vojvodina and Belgrade are anticipated to have "tropical nights," where temperatures do not drop below 20 degrees Celsius, adding to the discomfort and strain on infrastructure.
