Serious Tram Accident in Germany Injures 24

A severe tram collision in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, left 24 people injured on Thursday afternoon. The accident, which occurred in the western German city, involved two trams colliding with each other.

According to reports from the German newspaper Waz, three people suffered life-threatening injuries, while seven others sustained serious harm. An additional 14 individuals received treatment for minor injuries. Emergency services also assisted 19 other people at the scene who were not physically injured by the collision itself.

Preliminary information suggests that one of the trams involved was on a training exercise and was stationary when the second tram struck it. The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Gelsenkirchen is a city of over 270,000 inhabitants located in the Ruhr area. The accident happened near the Veltins-Arena, the home stadium of the football club Schalke 04, which has hosted major international football tournaments.
