Seven arrested after armed clashes in Mexico; woman hit by stray bullet

A tense situation unfolded in Escuinapa, Sinaloa, as security forces apprehended seven men following reports of intense armed confrontations between rival groups. The operation, which involved federal and state forces, also resulted in the seizure of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.

According to the State Public Security Secretariat, the arrests were made in response to calls received by the C4 emergency system reporting ongoing gunfire. A robust surveillance operation was deployed, leading to the detention of the seven individuals. During the arrests, authorities discovered five automatic rifles, 28 magazines, five tactical vests, seven ballistic plates, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, a 49-year-old woman, identified as Miriam Lizet “N”, sustained a head injury from a stray bullet while she was inside her home in the Benito Juarez neighborhood. Her family transported her to a local hospital for treatment.

Residents in several neighborhoods near the municipal seat reported continuous gunfire, which they believed stemmed from clashes between warring factions. The violence prompted businesses in the town center to close temporarily, and inhabitants were advised to avoid areas with a visible security presence. The full extent of the seized ammunition is still being counted.
