Seven die in Niger road crash

A devastating road accident on Sunday morning along the Kutigi–Mokwa–Bida Road in Niger State claimed the lives of seven passengers and left seven others with serious injuries. The crash involved a Mazda vehicle traveling from Minna towards Mokwa Local Government Area and a Sienna coming from Lagos.

The collision occurred when the Mazda reportedly entered a blind corner and collided head-on with the Sienna. The Mazda, which was carrying eight passengers, tragically lost all occupants except for a teenage girl who was found unconscious at the scene. The Sienna, also fully occupied, sustained severe damage, resulting in seven injured passengers.

As at the time of rescue, 18 people were involved: seven injured, seven killed and four not injured.

Four individuals from the Sienna reportedly escaped the crash without injuries. Emergency services and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. The Corps Commander of the Niger State Federal Road Safety Command, Aishat Saadu, confirmed that a total of 18 passengers were involved in the incident: seven fatalities, seven injured, and four unharmed.

Authorities are currently searching for the relatives of the sole survivor from the Mazda car. The accident, which occurred around 11:30 am in Shebe Village, highlights the dangers of the road and the need for increased safety measures. Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are likely underway.
