Woman Dies in Varsity Registrar's Car Crash in Niger State

A fatal road accident in Minna, Niger State, has resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to two others. The incident occurred along IET New Horizons Road in the Old Airport Quarters area when a vehicle, reportedly driven by the Registrar of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Danladi Mallam, experienced a tyre burst. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle lost control and veered off the road, striking a woman who was negotiating a fare with a commercial motorcyclist.

Victims were evacuated to a nearby Primary Health Care Centre for treatment. The woman was pronounced dead at the facility, while the other two individuals are still receiving medical attention. Mallam's brother was also a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The university had announced Mallam's appointment as its seventh substantive registrar in January 2025.

This latest tragedy underscores the persistent issue of fatal road accidents in Niger State. In June, five people died and eight were critically injured in a crash involving a trailer and a tanker in Agaie. Earlier, in February 2025, 12 people were killed in a collision between a passenger bus and a trailer, and in January 2025, eight farmers died in another collision. These incidents have fueled concerns over speeding, dangerous overtaking, and vehicle roadworthiness on the state's roads.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the latest crash to determine the exact cause of the woman's death and the injuries sustained by the other victims. The recurring nature of these accidents points to a broader safety concern on Niger State roads.
