Seven & i Holdings Ends Talks to Acquire Polish Żabka Group

Seven & i Holdings, the Japanese conglomerate behind the global Seven-Eleven convenience store chain, has officially pulled out of negotiations to acquire a stake in Poland's Żabka Group. The company announced on Saturday that it could not reach an agreement with the seller on terms it deemed beneficial for its shareholders and partners.

This decision marks the end of discussions that had been ongoing for months. Earlier reports suggested Seven & i Holdings was looking to invest hundreds of billions of yen into Żabka. Such an investment was seen as a strategic move to significantly expand the Japanese company's presence in Europe, a region where its international operations are currently less concentrated compared to North America and Asia.

While the Żabka deal has fallen through, Seven & i Holdings has emphasized its continued interest in the European market. Żabka, a major convenience store operator in Poland and Romania with over 12,750 stores as of March 2026, was seen as a significant entry point into the European market for the Japanese retailer.
