Seven Injured as Heavy Rain Floods Spain's Costa Dorada, Evacuating Hundreds

Torrential rain lashed Spain's Costa Dorada, leaving at least seven people injured and forcing the evacuation of hundreds from a campsite and a nightclub. The fire department received approximately 700 calls for assistance as storms unleashed up to 200 liters of water per square meter in a few hours in the coastal region between Tarragona and Barcelona.

Several towns, including El Vendrell, Roda de Berà, and Torredembarra, suffered severe impacts. Streets flooded with up to half a meter of water, trapping some individuals in their cars. Basements, garages, and hotel lobbies were inundated.

In Roda de Berà, a wall collapsed in the harbor, injuring three people, one seriously. Four other individuals sustained injuries in separate incidents in the same town. Emergency services evacuated 300 people from a campsite in Roda de Berà, providing them shelter in a local sports hall. Another 100 young people were evacuated from a nightclub in El Vendrell and taken to a nearby school.

Authorities continue to urge vigilance in the area, as significant rainfall is expected to persist. The region had previously experienced extreme heat and wildfires.
