Seven workers poisoned by phosphine gas at Edirne factory

Seven workers were hospitalized in Edirne, Turkey, after suffering phosphine gas poisoning. The incident took place at a rice factory in the Uzunköprü district.

Workers entered the factory's warehouse two days after a fumigation process was carried out to eliminate pests like insects, larvae, and fungi. Upon entering, they reportedly felt unwell due to the phosphine gas present in the environment.

Emergency services, including UMKE, AFAD, and medical teams, were dispatched to the scene. After safety measures were secured, the affected workers were transported by ambulance to Uzunköprü State Hospital for treatment. Officials, including the İYİ Party Edirne Provincial Chairman Mehmet Akalın and the Uzunköprü District Governor Muammer Köken, visited the hospital to check on the workers' condition. The hospital chief physician confirmed the workers are in good condition and their treatment is ongoing. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
