Several roads in Kuala Terengganu closed for Merdeka Day parade rehearsals and celebration

Kuala Terengganu is preparing to celebrate Malaysia's Independence Day with a series of events, including full parade rehearsals and the official state-level Merdeka Day celebration. To ensure the smooth execution of these activities, several major roads within the city will be temporarily closed. These closures will be implemented in stages and are scheduled to last for six hours each day. The full parade rehearsals are set to take place this Saturday, followed by the main Merdeka Day celebration on Monday. The affected routes encompass a significant portion of the city center, starting from Stadium Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah and concluding at Dataran Shahbandar. Key roads involved include Jalan Pejabat, Jalan Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, and Jalan Sultan Zainal Abidin. Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor, stated that the temporary road closures, spanning approximately three kilometers, are necessary for the seamless movement of parade participants and the safety of all involved. The roads are expected to reopen to traffic once the parade has concluded and depending on the traffic congestion in the area. In light of these arrangements, road users are strongly advised to plan their travel arrangements in advance. Authorities recommend utilizing alternative routes where possible and ensuring that no vehicles obstruct the designated parade routes. This measure aims to minimize disruption and ensure the safety and success of the Merdeka Day festivities.
