Severe thunderstorms with hurricane-force winds forecast for southwest Germany

Large parts of Baden-Württemberg face the threat of severe thunderstorms, according to a warning issued by the German Weather Service (DWD) early Monday afternoon. The alert covers all four administrative districts and is expected to remain in effect until the evening.

The DWD forecasts localized severe thunderstorms accompanied by hurricane-force gusts reaching up to 110 kilometers per hour. Extreme heavy rainfall is also anticipated, with some areas potentially receiving up to 40 liters per square meter within an hour. Hailstones could reach sizes of approximately three centimeters.

"Extreme danger from lightning strikes, hail, or severe storm gusts! Localized flooding and significant traffic disruptions are to be expected," the DWD stated. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions against the severe weather conditions.
