Severe Weather Impacts 1,091 Families in Sri Lanka's Nuwara Eliya District

Adverse weather conditions in Sri Lanka's Nuwara Eliya district have left 1,091 families affected, resulting in five deaths and one person missing, according to District Secretary Thushara Tennakoon. The severe weather, which has somewhat subsided, caused significant damage to housing in the region.

Tennakoon reported that 3,951 individuals from these families have been impacted by the disaster. Currently, 523 families, comprising 2,195 people, are residing in 20 displacement camps set up within the district. An additional 224 individuals are staying with relatives.

The adverse weather situation that has been prevailing in the Nuwara Eliya district has somewhat subsided, and as a result of the disaster that occurred, 1,091 families in the Nuwara Eliya district have been affected, with five people dead and one missing.

The disaster also damaged residential properties, with two houses completely destroyed and 90 others suffering partial damage. Officials are taking steps to allow residents to return to their homes once the water that flooded the houses has receded and repairs can be made.
