Seville to establish Museum of Hispanidad to celebrate its American ties

Seville is set to become a global center for understanding the "Hispanidad" – the cultural and historical ties between Spain and the Americas – with the upcoming Museum of Hispanidad. Mayor José Luis Sanz announced his support for the project, emphasizing the city's inextricable link to the continent.

The museum will be housed in the historic San Clemente monastery. Its design prioritizes a 21st-century approach, incorporating innovative museography, advanced technology, audiovisual elements, and interactive features. The goal is to create an immersive experience that educates visitors about the profound historical significance of the relationship between Spain and the Americas.

"Seville cannot be understood without America, nor can America be understood without Seville," Sanz stated. He highlighted Seville's pivotal role in a "most important page of universal history" and stressed the need to tell this story with a museum that blends historical accuracy with modern presentation. Seville served as the primary Spanish port for navigation to the Americas from the 16th to the early 18th centuries and was home to the Casa de Contratación, established in 1503 to regulate overseas trade, mapmaking, and pilot training.
