Shalun Science City develops smart green energy; Shalun High School achieves diamond-level green building status

Shalun International High School, located in the Guiren District of Tainan, Taiwan, has been awarded a diamond-level green building certification, underscoring its commitment to sustainable development. The school is a key component of Shalun Science City, an area designated for the advancement of AI and semiconductor technologies, with a strong emphasis on smart green energy initiatives.

Beyond its environmental accolades, the school, which serves as a bilingual K-12 demonstration school, has also received the Gold Award at the National Excellent Construction Awards. This recognition highlights the Tainan City government's efforts to create a new campus environment that blends technological innovation with humanities and sustainability, aiming to attract international talent.

The newly constructed school buildings feature diverse spaces, including classrooms for kindergarten, elementary, and high school levels, as well as a kitchen and a multi-purpose gymnasium with a heated swimming pool. The campus design embraces a "Learning Hub" concept, promoting interaction and collaborative learning across different educational stages through open, flexible, and shared spaces. This approach directly supports the educational philosophy of "self-directed, interactive, and cooperative learning" emphasized in Taiwan's 108 Curriculum Guidelines.

Mayor Huang Wei-che emphasized the city's dual focus on technological development and talent cultivation. He stated that the establishment of an international school within Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City, aligned with the Executive Yuan's "Greater Southern New Silicon Valley Promotion Program," provides a high-quality educational environment for the children of international professionals relocating to Tainan. The school aims to build a learning environment that fosters scientific literacy and global perspectives, integrating bilingual and international education with a foundation in science education.

Education Bureau Director Cheng Hsin-hui noted that the diamond-level certification is the highest tier for green building labels. He explained that the school's design incorporated sustainable development principles from the initial planning stages, culminating in the certification that showcases the campus's achievements in energy conservation, ecological friendliness, and overall environmental sustainability.
