Shaniya Khan defies odds to become a lawyer

Shaniya Khan has defied expectations and achieved her lifelong ambition of becoming a lawyer at the age of 26. Her journey was marked by significant personal challenges, including single motherhood and overcoming the doubts of others. Khan worked multiple roles within law firms, from receptionist to administrative staff, while simultaneously pursuing her legal education and raising her daughter.

I started working, and then I worked for multiple firms as a receptionist, convincing officer, and administrative staff. Everything. I have done overall jobs in many law firms. And then I became a mother as well. I have gone through a lot of struggles. I have passed a lot of stages in my life throughout my LLB and my GDLP.

Despite facing numerous setbacks and an unsuccessful relationship, Khan remained determined to build a better future. She described her LLB and GDLP studies as a period of intense struggle, balancing her academic pursuits with her responsibilities as a student and a mother.

Khan's aspiration to become a lawyer was deeply influenced by her mother, who encouraged her to enter a profession that could positively impact society. Her mother, who started her own business after a difficult relationship, often spoke of the respect lawyers command. Khan credits her mother's unwavering support for her success, emphasizing that her mother constantly urged her to continue her studies and persevere.

Actually, my mom had a broken relationship, So, from then on she also started a business, and she has been engaging with lawyers a lot. She was the one who told me from the very start that a lawyer is a kind of profession that gives respect to you in society. People will look up to you.

Looking ahead, Khan advises aspiring law students to maintain an open mind and embrace continuous learning. Her achievement serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that dedication and resilience can turn dreams into reality, even in the face of adversity.
