Shariatpur BNP Leader Files Extortion Complaint After Journalists Accuse Him of Assault

In Shariatpur, Bangladesh, a complex situation has unfolded involving accusations of assault and a subsequent counter-complaint of extortion. Arifuzzaman Molla, joint general secretary of the Shariatpur district BNP and former president of the district Jubo Dal, has filed a written complaint alleging extortion against several journalists.

This action follows an earlier complaint filed by journalists who accused Molla of assaulting three of them and threatening others. The journalists' complaint named Molla, along with Aminur Rahman alias Aman, president of Shariatpur district Swechchhasebak Dal, and Rubel Madbar, a Jubo League activist.

Journalists expressed frustration, claiming that their complaint had not yet been formally recorded as a case or general diary nearly 24 hours later. They allege that Molla's counter-complaint was an immediate attempt to intimidate and silence them after they lodged their initial accusation.

The Officer-in-Charge of Palong Model Police Station, Shah Alam, confirmed that both complaints are currently being examined. He assured that cases would be formally recorded if the allegations from either side are found to be true.
