Sharjah provides over 1.25 billion gallons of water to farms during first half of 2026

Sharjah has significantly bolstered its agricultural and food security initiatives by supplying over 1.25 billion gallons of water to farms and key government projects during the first half of 2026. The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) spearheaded this effort as part of its commitment to sustainability and water efficiency.

As part of its commitment to sustainability and enhancing water efficiency to meet sustainable development needs, Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has provided more than 1.25 billion gallons of water, aiming at supporting strategic government projects and food security initiatives in the emirate.

Engineer Abdurrahman Bukhalaf, Director of the Water Plants and Desalination Department at SEWA, detailed the distribution, noting that wheat farms received 1,029,990,940 gallons, dairy farms 151,429,300 gallons, and poultry farms 10,716,640 gallons. These supplies are crucial for supporting local production and strengthening the emirate's food security system.

Bukhalaf emphasized that these actions align with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. The goal is to ensure the sustainability of water resources for vital projects that bolster agricultural and livestock production, as well as eco-tourism destinations like the Sharjah Safari. SEWA is dedicated to employing innovative water management technologies to foster a prosperous agricultural future.

The supplies included 1,029,990,940 gallons of water for the wheat farms, 151,429,300 gallons for the dairy farm, and 10,716,640 gallons for the poultry farm, aiming to secure sustainable water supplies to support local production and contribute to enhancing the food security system in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The Sharjah Safari project alone received 34,072,720 gallons of water. This initiative, reflecting the ruler's vision for environmental protection and wildlife care, is a key component in enhancing eco-tourism and offering unique visitor experiences. SEWA's provision of advanced water infrastructure is vital for crop irrigation and livestock needs, supporting self-sufficiency and adhering to high standards of quality and sustainability.

SEWA also provided 34,072,720 gallons of water to the Sharjah Safari project, which embodies the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in protecting the environment and caring for natural life, and is considered one of the leading projects which enhance eco-tourism in the emirate and provide a unique experience for visitors.
