Sharp increase in organ donors in recent days: – The backdrop is sad

Norway has witnessed a dramatic increase in organ donors in recent days, a surge attributed to the heightened public attention surrounding the Crown Princess's health. The Stiftelsen Organdonasjon (Organ Donation Foundation) reported an extraordinary rise in individuals signing up to donate organs.

On Friday alone, 2,178 people completed donor cards through the Helsenorge portal. This figure represents a 31-fold increase compared to the average daily registrations throughout May, according to the foundation. The significant uptick underscores a strong public response to the news.

Simultaneously, the organ donor app experienced a similar boom. On Friday, 3,568 individuals used the app, with 665 completing their donor cards for the first time on that same day. This represents a 26-fold increase over the normal rate for this period, indicating a widespread engagement with the cause.

The foundation's information chief noted that while the backdrop to this increase is undoubtedly sad, the surge in donor registrations is a clear consequence of the attention on the Crown Princess's health. The event has seemingly galvanized many Norwegians to consider organ donation.
