Sheinbaum Rejects 'Blacklist' Claims, Cites Social Media Dynamics

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has vehemently denied allegations that a "blacklist" exists targeting individuals critical of her administration's agenda. The denial came after the Presidency's legal counsel, Luisa María Alcalde, presented information on social media users associated with narratives opposing the government's "transformation project."

During her regular press conference on Friday at the National Palace, Sheinbaum explained that Alcalde's presentation illustrated the mechanics of social media. "Luisa only said: 'A news item comes from an account, and from there a whole mechanism is activated against a political position, a project, the President,'" Sheinbaum stated, emphasizing that Alcalde did not identify specific individuals for censorship.

Sheinbaum asserted that Mexico is currently experiencing the "greatest freedom of expression in history." When questioned about the alleged blacklist, she retorted, "Who is being censored, who? Nobody," reinforcing her stance that no one is being silenced under her leadership.

The controversy arose following Alcalde's presentation, which opposition figures interpreted as an "intimidation tactic." However, Sheinbaum maintained that the information shared was merely an explanation of how online discourse operates and not an attempt to suppress dissent. She further accused the opposition of preparing to criticize her government, referencing the withdrawal of a U.S. visa for Andrés Manuel "Andy" López Beltrán.
