Sheinbaum says current judiciary is “much better” than its predecessor and promises budget details

President Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico’s judiciary is now “much better” than the system that preceded the 2025 election of ministers, magistrates and judges.

She said she would give details at her next news conference about the judiciary’s previous budget and compare it with what it will spend this year. She also said she would discuss how much the Supreme Court received before and how much it receives now, as well as how the judiciary operates under the new system.

Sheinbaum pointed to what she called a decline in the “revolving door” phenomenon, in which people accused of crimes were released immediately because their arrests were supposedly not carried out properly. She said the decline did not mean innocent people should be detained, but attributed it to greater judicial capacity and less corruption.

Let’s see if tomorrow we remember how much the Court earned before and how much it earns now, what resources are allocated to it, how the judiciary works now and how it worked before. It is a much better judiciary than the one we had, much better.
