Shen Po-yang Draws 'Sun' Tarot Card at 'Chiikawa' Event, Hopes for Campaign Luck

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang participated in a special movie screening and post-film discussion for "Chiikawa: The Secret of the Mermaid Island" on August 21. The event, held at the Broadway Cinema in Gongguan, was organized in response to an invitation from city council candidate Liu Pin-hsin.

A highlight of the event occurred when Shen Po-yang drew a "Sun" tarot card from a "Chiikawa"-themed deck. He interpreted this as a highly auspicious sign, symbolizing great fortune and brightness for his election campaign and for the future of Taipei. Shen noted that drawing the "Sun" card is rare for him personally, linking it to positive moments like adopting his daughter. He expressed hope that his campaign and Taipei's governance would flourish like the sun.

I drew the Sun today, skipping the sorrowful Moon and directly welcoming the Sun, I feel really good. I hope the election campaign and Taipei's city affairs can flourish like the sun.

Shen emphasized the connection between the tarot reading, the collective subconscious of the audience, and the desire for Taipei to regain its glory, become warmer, and better protect its children. He strongly endorsed Liu Pin-hsin, describing her as a "little sun" who brings good luck. Shen praised her experience, gained through previous work in both central and local government, and her ability to effectively connect citizens' issues with the appropriate government agencies. He also highlighted her deep understanding of urban culture, her advocacy for a "children's museum," and her focus on school districts and child safety, which align with his own vision for the capital.

Tarot cards are a manifestation of the subconscious and a connection between people, like the "butterfly effect." The reason I could draw the Sun is precisely because all the audience members share a common "collective unconscious."

The event aimed to integrate the themes of "Chiikawa" into a meaningful experience, transforming the animated IP into a warm medium for building solidarity. Liu Pin-hsin stated that organizing such events requires sincerity and meticulousness, similar to how she approaches public service. She hopes attendees, particularly young people and parents, feel supported and find resonance with the "Chiikawa" franchise during the event.
