Ship recaptured from pirates after naval battle

A cargo ship, the MV Latuf, has been safely recaptured and resumed its journey after a prolonged battle with pirates in Somali waters. The successful operation, a joint effort between Turkey's navy and Somali forces, concluded with the neutralization of 14 pirates and the destruction of their four vessels.

The government of Somalia announced the successful conclusion of the 10-day operation on Saturday. This recapture marks a significant development in the ongoing struggle against piracy, which had seen a resurgence in recent weeks after a period of decline. Piracy was a major issue off the Somali coast from the early 2000s until around 2011, largely due to international naval patrols and other countermeasures.
