Shocking moment toddler wanders among cars on busy Bucharest boulevard before motorcyclist saves her

A girl not yet two years old walked several hundred meters from a Bucharest park and ended up among moving cars on Șoseaua Mihai Bravu. Her parents did not realize she had left. A motorcyclist spotted her moments before a vehicle could hit her.

The incident happened at about 10 a.m., when traffic was heavy. A camera mounted on the motorcyclist’s helmet recorded the girl leaving the park near the block where she was with her family. She eventually reached the boulevard’s first lane, close to the intersection with Ferdinand Boulevard.

Iulian Olaru, a former contestant on the television show “Chefi la cuțite,” was riding a scooter when he saw the child. “I left first from the traffic light and saw that child in the middle of the street. I did everything I could to save her. There was a bus behind me, and I thank that bus driver for managing to block traffic on the boulevard. I accepted that a car could hit me and that child, but I managed to save that child,” he said.

After taking the girl off the road, Olaru searched for her parents. He said they were sitting on a bench in the park and focused on their mobile phones when the child left. Olaru also claimed they may have been under the influence of substances, but authorities have not confirmed that information.

The girl’s mother, who also has a four-year-old child, was later taken for questioning. Authorities began checking how the girl reached such a busy boulevard, while the mother was advised to undergo a psychiatric consultation, according to information presented by Observator. The two girls were temporarily placed with their grandparents, and the child protection authorities are reviewing the family’s situation. Olaru rejected the idea that he was a hero: “I am not a hero. I thank God that I was able to save that child. I do not consider myself a hero. I want to be a person who managed to save a child.”
